Sbmt–steiner Backup Multicast Tree

چکیده
In the backbone network, a Steiner multicast tree (SMT) will be established for multicast members to minimize the traffic load on networks. However, a communication link or node may fail due to some accidental factors during the transmission period. Downstream nodes with respect to the failed link/node will be forced to leave this tree. In order to guarantee the quality of service (QoS), it is desirable to have some schemes for the multicast tree so that such termination of service can be avoided or at least, reduced. In this paper, we propose a fixed SMT algorithm (FSA) to construct the Steiner backup multicast tree (SBMT). Based on FSA, for each ‘critical’ path, an alternate route with enough bandwidth will be reserved such that most fatal failures in the network can be recovered immediately. The way to determine critical paths is based on statistical analysis. In addition, an adaptive SMT algorithm (ASA) is proposed to construct both SMT and SBMT on unreliable networks. The adjustment of the SBMT when nodes dynamically join or leave the SMT is also discussed. The degree of fault tolerance of the proposed strategies is evaluated and compared by simulation. Simulation results demonstrate that FSA and ASA improve the reliability in stable and unstable networks, respectively. Moreover, the dynamic joining process of a node will be sped up by taking both SMT and SBMT into considerations. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the optimization. ∗Corresponding Author: Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, Chang Gung University, 259 Wen-Hwa 1st Road, Kwei-Shan, Tao-Yuan, Taiwan 333, R.O.C. Distributed multicast routing in point-to-point networks
The distributed algorithm for a multicast connection set-up, based on the &cheapest insertion' heuristic, is reviewed. The multicast routing problem is translated into a Steiner tree problem in point-to-point networks where nodes have only a limited knowledge about the network. A solution is proposed in which the time complexity and the amount of information exchanged between network nodes are ...
متن کاملProviding Network Survivability to ATM Group Communications Via Self - Healing Survivable Rings
In this paper we examine the potential bene ts of dedicated backup route(s) to provide survivability for ATM group communications. Specifically we examine the feasibility of providing survivability using working multipoint routes with disjoint dedicated backup multipoint routes where the multipoint routes are setup using either Virtual Rings, shared multicast trees, or VC Mesh groups. We introd...
متن کاملA Backup Tree Algorithm for Multicast Overlay Networks
We propose the so-called backup tree algorithm to compute a set of n-1 backup multicast delivery trees from the default multicast tree for application level multicast. For each backup multicast tree exactly one link of the default multicast tree is replaced by a backup link from the set of available links. The backup tree algorithm calculates the n-1 trees with a complexity of O (m log n).

Application Level Multicast is a promising approach to overcome the deployment problems of IP level multicast by establishing delivery trees using overlay links among end systems. This paper presents algorithms to support traffic engineering, to improve the reliability of multicast delivery, and to facilitate secure group communications. First, we introduce the so-called backup multicast tree a...
متن کاملIs a Steiner Tree the optimal multicast model?
Many multicast routing algorithms have been suggested in the past as multicast communication emerges as one of the important services in communications networks. Many algorithms aim at the Steiner tree model because the Steiner tree is thought to provide the optimal multicast route by minimizing the sum of the link costs. The concept of cost in network routing can apply to various measures of n...
